Creating a New Blueprint for Learning in an AI Economy

Published: Jul 14, 2026

Artificial intelligence is changing work faster than any technological shift in modern history. Entire categories of jobs are evolving, with 40% of core skills expected to change by 2030, according to the . In lieu of incremental improvements, the challenge before us is creating an entirely new model of learning that helps individuals continuously develop the knowledge, skill and abilities needed to remain relevant in a rapidly changing economy.

Yesterday, I joined Shad Ahmed, economic mobility and AI lead at Anthropic, for a conversation moderated by Matt Gee, director of U.S. Program Data at the Gates Foundation, at JFF’s Horizons Summit about why our strategic partnership with Anthropic is built to address this opportunity. Unlike many AI partnerships in higher education focused primarily on classroom experimentation or productivity tools, our collaboration is designed to help millions of workers effectively navigate changing labor market demands driven by AI.

Together we shared how we're working to enable tomorrow’s workforce by building what we believe will become the first AI-native model for learning and credentialing—a fundamentally different approach to preparing individuals for an economy where learning moves from singular and episodic to continual, timely, personalized and responsive to change.

AI-native is a disposition, not an effort to deploy technology for its own sake. Rather than asking where AI fits into today’s processes, it asks what becomes possible when we challenge conventional assumptions and design around the possibilities that AI enables. In that spirit, we discussed how we will co-develop AI-native systems that can identify the skills emerging jobs will require; tailor learning to help individuals develop those competencies more quickly no matter their starting point; verify them through skills-based, digital credentials; and connect learners with career opportunities. Together, these capabilities create a more responsive learning ecosystem that delivers step-function increases in the outcomes that matter most—expansive and inclusive access, completion, career advancement, and economic mobility—while delivering readied talent for employers and the jobs of tomorrow.

As part of the collaboration, Anthropic will provide engineering support, platform resources, model credits, and strategic collaboration to help accelerate Â鶹ԭ´´â€™s development of AI-native learning and operational capabilities. Critically, as Â鶹ԭ´´ deploys Claude for Enterprise across the organization, we will design new models and processes from the ground up around the capabilities that AI makes possible

The true value of AI won't be measured by the sophistication of the technology, but by its ability to transform lives—helping individuals develop new capabilities more quickly, connect with meaningful opportunities, and experience upward mobility. Through AI, it’s now possible to extend this promise to every learner, ensuring that more individuals benefit from this transformation rather than being left behind by it.

As the largest higher education institution in the country graduating nearly 70,000 students this year, Â鶹ԭ´´ has already demonstrated that it is possible to deliver high-quality, personalized learning at scale. But no single institution can solve this challenge alone. Employers, technology companies, policymakers, philanthropies, and others all have a role in building a talent ecosystem where learning keeps pace with change and innovation, and where individuals remain at the center of progress.

That's the work Â鶹ԭ´´ is committed to. And we're excited to do it alongside Anthropic.
